CCLEAr Agri-Business Incubator (CCLEAr ABI) is a non-profit, non-political organization registered in Ghana under a public-private partnership agreement between CSIR-Animal Research Institute (as the lead organization), the Departments of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, and Animal Science, both of University of Ghana, the Directorate of Animal Production of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Heifer International, Ghana, and Humbeg Farms, Anum. CCLEAr ABI has a wide array of partnerships including FARA, ANAFE, PanAAC, ABI@ICRISAT, and CORAF/ WECARD through financial support from the DANIDA-funded UniBRAIN Facility.
CCLEAr ABI is established to champion the creation of competitive enterprises in the livestock value chain, and also influence the teaching and learning of agribusiness in Ghanaian universities and colleges with the view to developing entrepreneurial skills in graduating students rather than creating job-seeking graduates.
CCLEAr Agri-Business Incubator provides a unique opportunity to SMEs and startups to access the rich human resource and facilities that exist within the consortium member institutions. CCLEAr ABI is headquartered within the CSIR-Animal Research Institute, where there is a large tract of land available for foreign companies in the livestock value chain seeking softlanding opportunities. CCLEAr ABI is thus about 1 hour drive to the business centre of Accra, the capital of Ghana, and about 30 minutes from the Kotoka International Airport. CCLEAr ABI also offers unique internship opportunities to students seeking to create businesses in the livestock sector in Ghana.
CCLEAr ABI’s activities include periodic seminars and workshops on agribusiness marketing, pitching to investors, customer development, product development, labour rights, and leadership development skills; and other assistance as needed.
CCLEAr ABI’s management is headed by a Chief Executive Officer with the able support of an Incubator Manager and other members of the Management Group composed of the Technical and R&D Committee. The management is also supported by a very rich governing board, a pool of seasoned business mentors and a rich resource of human capital from the UniBRAIN partners (i.e. FARA, ANAFE, PanAAC, ABI ICRISAT and CORAF/WECRD).
The CCLEAr ABI Governing Board is constituted by a team who represents business and technical interests from the public, private, enterprise development and higher education sectors.
